Microsoft has been slow to bring collaborative working to Office for macOS, giving a crucial edge to Google Docs. But the wait is finally over.
The update history information for version 16.16 and earlier also applies to Office 2016 for Mac, which is also a version of Office for Mac that’s available as a one-time purchase. Older versions up to and including 16.16 can be activated with an Office 2016 for Mac volume license. Uninstalling Outlook or Office updates. In that case you can use System Restore to revert your system back to a date before you installed the update. This will uninstall other updates or applications that you have installed between then and now as well so make sure you reinstall those afterwards. Outlook 2016 Step by Step by Microsoft.
The ability to work with others simultaneously is now rolling out with Office version 16.9.0 — available today. Collaboration comes to Word, Excel, PowerPoint Collaborative editing is available across Microsoft’s most popular Office apps. When working together, users will see a thumbnail in the corner of their window that shows them who else is editing the same document.
A flag will also be visible in the document where another person is editing, and you can watch the changes as they happen. To make collaboration easier, Microsoft now auto-saves your work (finally!) at regular intervals. It also saves version history, so if someone happens to mess something up, you can view the version history for a list of changes and roll back to an earlier version of the document. Other improvements Microsoft has also introduced new logical functions to Excel, a useful QuickStarter feature to PowerPoint, and support for Google calendars and contacts to Outlook.
The latter also lets you archive and delete messages in just one swipe now. For a full list of changes in this update, see Microsoft’s support site. If you’re an Office 2016 user, you can download the latest release now from within one of your Office apps.

This did the trick for me: pushd%programfiles% common files microsoft shared clicktorun officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.7967.2161 Does anyone know how to report this update to Microsoft? I can't imagine they broke 'legacy' Macro functions. That's awesome!
I've been using a locally stored version of Office to roll back, but as of yesterday, Microsoft has marked it as too old to Active which required me to perform an update. About 75% of the time, the update goes to 1702, but in about 25% of the cases, it goes to 1704 requiring me to repeat the uninstall, reinstall and hope it does do it the next time. I've reported it to MS, as I am an Office 365 customer, I used the Get Help button on portal.office365.com, for all the good it's done.
We found, the issue is when you have code in the workbookopen function - by commenting it out (and any global variables that are declared in workbook,) it's allowed us to open the document on 1704 - but what good is that? I would have to modify 1000s of documents to circumvent this bug.
